DDA flats: Weekly inspection ordered

NEW DELHI: Increasing complaints from harassed allottees of the 2010 housing scheme have forced DDA to not only launch an enquiry but also pass an order directing all chief engineers and senior staff to investigate the complaints and submit a weekly report on the status of all infrastructure projects.

According to sources, the first report has to be submitted to newly appointed vice-chairman S K Srivastava by September 3. Officials said that according to this order, a team has to visit all ongoing projects to see whether these are completed on time and if there is any compromise on quality.

Weekly inspections will be mandatory to ensure that timelines are followed. "Strict monitoring by senior officials and the chief engineers in their respective areas is advised. Officials can recommend remedial measures in their areas. All chief engineers must make field visits, record findings and submit their report along with comments on a weekly basis to the vice-chairman," said a senior official.

Some allottees have got possession of "incomplete" flats in the 2010 scheme, while others are waiting. Last week, a team had visited the Mukherjee Nagar flats. Four junior engineers have been suspended for lapses and neglect of duty. DDA officials have assured completion of work in three months. An inspection of the Vasant Kunj flats was also conducted earlier this week, and other areas like Dwarka and Rohini are next on the list.
