Councillors call to solve potable water crisis

Irrespective of political differences, the Councillors from West Kochi, demanded urgent measures for solving the potable water crisis that has gripped the area, at the Kochi Corporation Council meeting held at the Council hall on Friday.

Acute water shortage was the major topic that was discussed at the Council meeting and the councillors reiterated the need to provide additional water in tanker lorries to the areas that are facing severe water crisis.

Councillors including  Karmily Antony and K R Prem Kumar requested the Mayor to take necessary steps for the supply of water in additional tanker lorries.

Meanwhile, the opposition councillors raised allegations that the Mayor is taking decisions unilaterally without consulting the Councillors. The opposition’s allegations came in the wake of the issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) to a bar at Vyttila.

Meanwhile in his reply, Mayor Tony Chammany said that a special council meeting will be convened soon to decide on the cancellation of the NOC.

Clarifying that the NOC was issued as per the norms suggested by the Excise Commissionerate, Chammany said that the decision to include the NOC issuance in the agenda was taken after discussing it with the Division Councillor and the opposition leader.

“Accordingly, the NOC issuance was listed in the Council meeting on March 12th.

“But the meeting was disrupted by the opposition and we were not able to have a detailed discussion on the topic,” he said.
