Kanpur Municipal Corporation may revise rent of shops
The municipal commissioner ordered to fix the rent after a survey of
shops. KMC had recently enhanced the rent upto 111%. The shopkeepers had
opposed the move. The civic body owns around 4,000 shops in the city
which are allotted on monthly rent.
Led by corporator Satyendra Mishra, the shopkeepers met municipal commissioner N K Singh Chauhan and demanded to reduce the rent. The shopkeepers claimed that rent of shops had been enhanced between 3% and 111% which was unfair.
The state government had also issued a GO in 1997 and stated that 12.5%
rent could be enhanced after five years. A proposal to enhance rent was
floated a couple of months ago. On April 27, KMC passed the proposal.
The shopkeepers saind that under the new provisions, rent of shops situated at Ghantaghar had been enhanced by 83 folds.
Chauhan ordered to make a survey of shops again. He said that enhanced
rent would be effective after the report. If there is any error, it
would be rectified, he added.
