Residents warned against drawing water illegally

People complain about non-supply of water due to fixing of motors to taps

Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) Commissioner M. Vanaja Devi has warned the residents of penal action if they resort to fixing of electric motor pumps directly to drinking water taps and overdraw water during summer and deny water to other consumers in various parts of the town.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, she said that they had been receiving several complaints from the residents about the non-supply of water through taps due to fixing of motors by some residents in colonies such as Mankammthota, Jyothinagar, Ramnagar, etc. She said that they would constitute special teams and conduct surprise inspections and seize the motor pumps and impose heavy fines on violators.

Water levels

Allaying fears about shortage of drinking water due to depletion of water table at the Lower Manair Dam reservoir, the main source of water to Karimnagar and other towns, the Municipal Commissioner said that the water table at LMD was at present at 3.82 tmcft and the dead storage level was only 2.5 tmcft. She said that they were lifting 27 million litres per day (MLD) through booster motors from the dam to meet the drinking water requirement in the town. She said that there was no need to panic about the water shortage in the town this summer.

With regard to the allegations on extension of services of some contract sanitation municipal staff and calling tenders for others, she clarified that they had extended the services of only women self-help group members working as sanitation workers. Terming the allegations as false and baseless, she said that they had called for tenders for other sanitation contract workers.
