On day two, MC seals 3 more commercial establishments

Continuing with its inspection of Ferozepur road on the second day, the Ludhiana MC on Friday sealed three more commercial establishments, including a banquet hall of 5-star Park Plaza, Oliva restaurant and K P Complex as they failed to make their own parking arrangements.

On the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the MC is busy getting the service lanes on the Ferozepur road cleared. On Friday, it had sealed Hotel Batra and J Sons, a garment shop.

Meanwhile, three Ferozepur Road shop associations have decided to shut nearly 600 shops along the road on May 14 in protest. The three associations are of Bharat Nagar Chowk, Aggar Nagar and Aarti Chowk.

The MC initiated sealing as last resort after shops failed to make parking arrangements despite 48 hours of prior notice, said Rajinder Sharma, assistant town planner, who led the inspection drive. He was accompanied by Joint Commissioner Ajay Sood.

S K Puri, president of the Aarti Chowk Association, in a press note, said more than 600 shopkeepers on Ferozepur road facing harassment due to prohibition of parking on Ferozepur road would be closed on May 14 as a mark of protest.
