Civic body to purchase medicines worth Rs 2 crore

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) proposes to purchase medicines worth Rs 2 crore for its hospitals for 2013-14.

A proposal will be tabled before the standing committee meeting to be held on May 28.

The proposal stated that the civic body had invited applications from companies for registering to supply medicines needed for two years. The bids were invited for 1,495 medicines which included allopathic medicine- 730 items, surgical- 465 items, ayurvedic- 224 items, dental- 58 items and homeopathic medicine- 18 items.

Ten companies applied for the bids. The medicine selection committee selected the companies.

Speaking to TOI, SB Gaikwad, acting Medical Officer of Health(MOH), PCMC said, "The proposal was tabled before the standing committee for approval at its meeting held on May 21 but was kept pending. It will be again tabled on May 28. The health department had purchased medicines costing Rs 9 crore for 2012-13. We will be purchasing medicines worth Rs 2 crore in the first installment. Later if we need more medicines then we will purchase more medicines after getting the approval of the standing committee."
