PCMC panel slams delay in women, child welfare schemes

PUNE: The members of the standing committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC) expressed their displeasure over the delay in implementation of schemes run by the women and child welfare department.

NCP corporator Maya Barne, who presided over the meeting held on Tuesday, said the municipal corporation has various schemes in which cycles and scholarships are given to students and sewing machines are given to needy women. But the citizens do not get these on time, she said. Several other members raised similar complaints.

Another corporator Vinaya Tapkir pointed out that the standing committee had approved a proposal to provide snacks and toys to students of balwadis in municipal limits around a year ago. But they have still not been provided with these facilities.

The members also demanded that persons who visit houses to distribute water bills should be given identity cards. The demand came after a Bhosari woman, who was alone at home, was robbed by a man posing as a census official.
