PCMC to survey properties for tax recovery

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be conducting a fresh survey of all the constructions within municipal limits for recovery of property tax.

Assistant commissioner Shahji Pawar on Tuesday said that directives for the survey were issued by municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi.

"The property tax department will register all properties and recover tax if the use of the property has been changed from residential to commercial. Similarly, if any extensions have been conducted without permission, the department will collect property tax for the extended area, along with penalty charges'', Pawar said. PCMC plans to complete the survey within a month. The civic body will then send notices to the property owners.

Civic standing committee chairman Navnath Jagtap said that the property tax issue was raised by members at the weekly meeting held on Tuesday.

At the meeting, members also made a demand for better security at areas where the corporation has built water reservoirs. Encroachments have taken place near these reservoirs, they said. The civic administration has assured the members that action will be taken against any constructions on nullahs.
