Civic body issues notices to residents of dilapidated buildings

NASHIK: As part of its pre-monsoon preparations, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued notices to residents of dangerous and dilapidated buildings in the city to immediately vacate or repair them.

The notices were issued by various NMC departments. The public works department (PWD) issued notices to 455 houses in all six divisions of the city, the slum department issued notices to 458 houses, the miscellaneous tax department issued 35 notices and the anti-encroachment department issued 118 notices to such residences.

The owners of these residences are to get the dangerous parts of the constructions repaired or razed, the slum-dwellers are to shift from river banks to safer places and encroachments are to be done away with, outline the notices.

The PWD has issued 26 notices in the East division, 14 in the West division, 48 in New Nashik (Cidco), 60 in Nashik Road, seven in Satpur and 300 in the Panchavati division. The slum department has issued 47 notices in the East division, 35 in the West, 178 in Nashik Road, 138 in Satpur and 60 in Panchavati. The miscellaneous tax department issued 15 notices in the West division and 20 in Panchavati, while the anti-encroachment department issued 83 notices in New Nashik and 35 in the Panchavati.

Divisional officers said that usually, residents of these structures either razed or repaired them, or in some acute cases, shifted residence. In case they did not, the NMC will be shifting residents of such buildings to safer places - like schools - in case of any disaster-like situation.

All NMC departments have been instructed to complete pre-monsoon works by June 15.
