3 held on charge of dumping waste

Staff Reporter

Three persons were held for disposing of animal slaughter waste into the Alappuzha Chertala (AS) canal, where cleaning activities are going on, Alappuzha MLA T.M.Thomas Isaac said

Mr. Isaac told reporters here on Sunday that the three were held by the health squad of the Alappuzha municipality and were imposed a fine of Rs.25,000.

Biju Stephen of Arattuvazhi had allegedly dumped waste from his shop into the canal in the early hours of Sunday. Police have also registered a case in this regard. Steps to close down the shop would be taken on Monday, he said.

He sought the help and support of political and social organisations to shut down the shops. The municipality had already served a notice on a famous hotel in the town for emptying waste water into the canal.
