PMC makes arrangements for warkaris

As lakhs of pilgrims entered the city for a stay as part of the annual palkhi procession from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur, the Pune Municipal Corporation on Monday pressed its various civic facilities into service to cater to the demands of the pilgrims.

Mayor Vaishali Bankar with Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak welcomed the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar at Mhaskewasti and Sant Tukaram palkhi at Bopodi.

The PMC provided free medical service such as ambulance, first aid and medicines round the clock to the pilgrims.

The civic administration has also put to work its solid waste management and water supply department for the requirement of pilgrims. The PMC has stationed water tankers at select places for the convenience of the pilgrims and has changed the timetable of water supply through its pipeline network.

The sanitation department has stationed mobile toilets at various places in the city. In few places, the civic schools are made available for the stay of pilgrims. The disaster management cell and fire department have been asked to stay on alert to meet any emergency.
