Demolition of structures at Kalewadi-Vijaynagar: PCMC to wait for copy of HC order

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to wait for the copy of Bombay High Court order on the structures it intends to demolish in Kalewadi-Vijaynagar area. "The HC had lifted the stay on the demolition of the structures coming in the way of the BRTS route. We will wait till we receive the copy of the order," said Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi.

On Monday, when the demolition squad went to Kalewadi-Vijaynagar area, the residents protested that the court had stayed the demolition of structures. However, civic officials informed them that the stay has been lifted by the High Court but could not produce the copy of the HC order sought by the residents. The squad had to retreat as the residents did not allow them to go ahead with the demolition.

The PCMC chief on Tuesday said they would demolish the structures only after they receive the copy of the order.

The PCMC has started the construction of BRTS route - 11.20 km-long and 45 metre wide - from Kalewadi Phata to Dehu-Alandi.

As part of the first phase, the stretch between Kalewadi Phata and M M School has been completed. In the second phase, the 1.4 km stretch that is to be constructed passes through Survey No 99 of Kalewadi-Vijaynagar. The stretch comprises 183 structures, of which 33 structures had secured a stay. The residents contended that in the development plan, the road has been shown both in Survey No 97 and Survey No 99. "However, the civic body has illegally limited it to Survey No 99. The issue has been pending in the court for six years," said residents.
