VMC looks to put new pictures on skywalk

VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is looking to put up new pictures of luminaries who belong to the city or have strong connections with it at the skywalk in the railway station area. The civic body had put up the pictures when the skywalk was inaugurated in 2010, but these were damaged.

The VMC had earlier used flex sheets for the pictures. But miscreants and street urchins had cut these and defaced them. Following this, the civic body had to remove these pictures.

The VMC had come up with a proposal of putting up these pictures again, but using acrylic sheets as material this time around. The proposal put up before the standing committee had stated that the material could not be cut or torn like flex sheets and was durable.

The civic body has proposed to spend Rs 15 lakh on the new pictures. The proposal was first put before the standing committee in April, but was deferred. The committee will take it up again on Friday.
