Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation seizes substandard mid-day meal oil

AHMEDABAD: A firm, Stree Shakti that was allotted the contract of providing food under mid-day meal scheme for thousands of children in municipal schools was raided by health team officials on Thursday. The team took samples of cooked food and the raw materials and found that the cooking oil was substandard.

"There were 24 tin boxes containing cotton seed oil at the premises and they were found substandard. Our tests are positive and we would initiate action against the firm," says medical officer, health at AMC, S P Kulkarni. The officials had formed teams to inspect the food being supplied to municipal schools under the MDM scheme. "The Bihar food poisoning incident was an eye-opener and it was felt that the food supplied to schools should be checked for quality," says a senior AMC health official.
