Japanese company likely to fund new sewerage system

RANCHI: A new sewerage model is all set to replace the traditional one in Ranchi households enabling improved drainage system across the city. Ranchi Municipal Corporation has designed the new model, which if implemented will directly connect every household to the sewage treatment plant. The treated water would then be released into the river.

The Rs 685 crore project has been approved by the central government and a Japanese company is likely to fund its implementation. Chief executive officer of RMC, Deepankar Panda said, "Japan International Corporation Agency ( JICA) is a company which provides loan for various development projects in the country. A three-member team visited Ranchi on Tuesday evening for inspection of the plan. They will submit the report to their head office in Tokyo and if approved, they will provide us a loan of Rs 685 crores. A technical team of Japan will also be visiting Ranchi soon."

The project includes establishment of four water treatment plants across the city. Panda said, "The four plants will be situated close to river banks to facilitate release of the treated water. Around 757km-long pipelines will be laid across the city to connect all households to the treatment plants."

The project will not just help in the improving the drainage system of the city but also decrease river pollution. "The plant will treat the sewerage before releasing it into the river and the water river will be clean, thus will reduce the pollution," said Panda.

"Also the new system will prevent clogging of drains during the monsoon and water logging issues will become passe," he added.
