Illegal sheds on civic amenity site razed

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities demolished more than 40 temporary sheds which were allegedly put up on a civic amenity (CA) site at Govindarajanagar on Tuesday.

The CA site located at National Housing Co-operative Society Layout in Govindarajanagar ward is spread over around one-and-a-half acre.   Speaking to Express, Councillor Mohan Kumar alleged that one Rajanna had put up more than 40 temporary sheds and rented them to many people.

There was a garage and other shops. He was earning a rent of `1.5 lakh from these shops every month. “We had approached the civil court which ordered to evict those shops, three months ago. Inspite of the court’s direction, our officials did not take any interest to evict them,” he alleged.

He further said that he had brought it to BBMP Commissioner’s notice in the Council meeting on July 31. The Commissioner had not only suspended the concerned BBMP Executive Engineer, but insisted on the eviction of illegal sheds within a week. But it was not done. “On Tuesday, Assistant Executive Engineers of all the nine wards in Govindarajanagar constituency, along with two police platoons, demolished those sheds,” he said.
