Corporation flays Engineers for bad condition of roads

GHMC standing committee members and floor leaders expressed their dissatisfaction with regard to road maintenance works and poor functioning of the engineers working for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

GHMC mayor, M Majid Hussain along with GHMC commissioner, MT Krishna Babu, held a review meeting on various civic related issues with standing committee members, floor leaders and additional commissioners.

The members informed that the resolutions of the standing committee and the general body are not being implemented by the engineers right below from the lower staff.

Responding to remarks made by the standing committee members and floor leaders, the commissioner said that since the last two and half years, it was observed that no memo has been issued for any engineer for dereliction of duties and asked the engineer-in-chief to look  into the matter.

He further stated that specific instructions have been given to superintendent engineers to take up regular review meetings every month, but none of them followed the instructions.

Responding to the request of standing committee members and floor leaders regarding the laying of permanent roads, the commissioner said that a stretch-wise study of lapses will be taken up by appointing a consultant and based on the report, the laying of permanent roads will be taken up.

Floor leaders pointed out that a file currently takes 25 days to reach the superintendent engineer from the executive engineer .

The ultimate solution for this would be fixing up of responsibility on the concerned executive engineers, who are supposed to follow the tasks from the day of sanction.
