Govt to amend BPMC Act to help PMC raise money for Metro

Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak on Wednesday said that the state government is planning to make an amendment to the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (BPMC) Act which will enable Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to increase development charges to raise money for its Metro Rail project.

PMC has to implement the project with funding from the union and state government. The civic body too has to contribute funds for the project. At a high level discussion with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, it was decided that PMC would be allowed to increase development charges to raise its contribution.

"The proposal will be tabled in the cabinet meeting for approval after the amendment to the BPMC Act is made. The plan to charge cess on fuel was ruled out," Pathak said.

Pathak said the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) rules and additional FSI for properties to be developed for PMPML are also being discussed.
