203 unauthorised constructions identified

Staff Reporter

As many as 203 unauthorised constructions, work on which began taking advantage of the Samaikyandhra strike by the Town Planning staff of GVMC, have come to light.

Reports from six zones submitted to the Commissioner on Thursday contained the details. Of them, 67 are in below 50 sq m site, 72 in below 100 sq m and one in below 300 sq m.

23 demolished

Acting on the reports and information obtained, 23 of the unauthorised constructions were pulled down. While Zone I and Zone VI in Pendurti and Madhurawada areas accounted for eight each, three in Zone II and two each in Zone IV and V were demolished.

For 119 plans were rejected and for 65 approvals would be given after the strike was called off.

Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana who held a meeting with zone commissioners, Chief City Planner and assistant city planners for the second successive day on Thursday told them they had failed to take any steps to prevent unauthorised construction. He pointed out that powers were delegated to zone commissioners to take action against unauthorised constructions.

He instructed field-level staff to record any unauthorised construction and take it to the notice of higher officials failing which action would be taken against them.

Additional Commissioner M. Janaki, Chief City Planner S. Balakrishna and zone commissioners and assistant city planners participated.
