BMC files complaint against fake websites

BHOPAL: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approached the cyber police for initiating action against fake websites similar to that of the civic body's. This was done so that citizens are not duped by them while file their taxes online. The BMC has complained to the cyber police against www.bhopalmunicipal.in and www.nagarnigambhopal.com which are similar to the BMC's own websites - www.bhopalmunicipal.com and www.bmconline.gov.in. These are the only two registered websites being operated by the municipal corporation.

After the matter came to light, commissioner BMC Vishesh Garhpale filed a complaint with the cyber police.

The civic body's websites provide online facilities to residents like payment of property tax, water cess and these are made available by online payment. Keeping this in mind, the taxpayer can easily get duped because of the similar URL. Hence the BMC took a pre-emptive step in this regard by filing the complaint, a BMC spokesman said.

The BMC has also exhorted the citizens to not register in any other websites besides the two, to file their taxes online.
