With Outer Ring Road (ORR) becoming vulnerable for fatal road accidents resulting in precious lives being lost due to rash and negligent driving, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to produce short films and documentaries on ORR to create awareness on safety aspects and safe driving.

It has also decided to produce short films and documentaries on Hussainsagar for creating awareness among citizens to keep the lake clean. The short films and documentaries would be screened at various important public places, cinema theatres and multiplexes soon. The HMDA officials told Express that the duration of the films would be of 30/60/120 seconds. The voice over will be in Telugu, English and Hindi.

The 159-km Outer Ring Road connecting Patancheru-Shamshabad-Hayathnagar-Medchal-Patancheru is providing connectivity to various state and national highways, to bypass Hyderabad city.

The ORR is constructed as orbital linkage to decongest the traffic flow on the existing major arterial roads in Hyderabad as well as a road-cum-area development project, since its aim is the development of well-planned and well-connected urban settlements around the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA).

Because of its high-speed design and current low traffic volume, frequent accidents are taking place which are fatal in nature. In the recent times, several accidents led to deaths of a number of people. These could be avoided to a large extent if commuters followed safe driving rules.

Similarly, the HMDA has decided to produce short films and documentaries on Hussainsagar for creating awareness among the people as the lake has rich biodiversity in the form of butterflies, birds, fishes and other aquatic life.

Earlier, the lake was known for irrigation and drinking water facilities and also for its rich biodiversity. It was constructed in 1562.
