Mayor B S Sathyanarayana said the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will rope in IT-BT and other private companies to maintain its properties including schools, parks, playgrounds and roads in Bangalore.

Sathyanarayana was speaking at an interaction with the FKCCI on Thursday. 

He said they will soon call for a meeting with IT-BT and other companies.

“We have already made a list of schools and parks. We will ask the companies to adopt any school or park. Later, we will sign a memorandum of understanding and in a joint venture, we can develop these public places,” he said.

“Once it is finalised, we are organising a big event in December to sign the MoU with the private companies,” he said.

He said meetings on ways to improve lakes will be held every Tuesday.

“If you (FKCCI) members are interested, you can join us or adopt the lake,” he said.

TL Fee Collection to be Outsourced

The Mayor said they are planning to outsource collection of trade licence (TL)  fee to private contractors.

 “We shall call for a tender and outsource the collection. Our officials are cheating in collecting the fees,” he alleged. He said there are more than 40,000 traders in Bangalore but only around 4,000 traders pay the fee.

Mayor Takes U-turn on Segregation

On garbage segregation, Sathyanarayana said, “There are many mechanised equipment which can segregate waste. But, even then, we stress on segregation at source. The BBMP is also working towards it.”

Multi-media Hub

Sathyanarayana said a multi-media hub will be set up at the K R Market building. 

“The second floor of the market building has been vacant for 16 years. We have not rented it out,” he said

There will be an automatic car parking system at the hub premises. “We shall construct a ramp to the second floor,” the Mayor added.

‘Akrama-Sakrama Not Feasible’

The Mayor said the Akrama-Sakrama scheme is not feasible in Bangalore. “There is a need for amendment and the issue is expected to come up during the Belgaum session,” he said. However, he said the BBMP is keen on collecting increased charges from residents in revenue pockets.
