Civic body begins drive against illegal hoardings

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Corporation will launch a joint drive to remove the illegal hoardings and advertisements boards installed at various locations in the city.

This time the civic body will carry out the joint drive with the help of the officials of the revenue and engineering sections.

The civic body has decided to strengthen its ongoing drive following complaints from public about the problem faced due to the installments of such hoardings .

The civic body had removed unauthorised advertisements and hoarding four months ago, but the advertisements reappeared after some days especially at Kozhikode Beach, in front of the Model School, Mavoor Road, Bypass, Palayam Subway, Mananchira and major junctions in the city.

City corporation secretary B K Balaraj said that the problem is that since the civic body had entrusted a contractor to levy the advertisement fee, the officials are finding difficult to differentiate between authorized and unauthorized advertisements put up on the roads sides. "Considering the seriousness of the matter, we have decided to launch a joint drive of officials comprising both the revenue and engineering sections to strengthen the drive against illegal hoardings,'' he said. "We have already given directions to the officials and they are expected to begin the drive soon after collecting details of authorized and unauthorized banners put up on the road sides and major junctions causing problem to the people,'' he said,
