Underground duct planned for cables

Special Correspondent

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will come out with an action plan to once again take up laying of the underground duct for putting in all the cables over a 200 km stretch in association with the Water Board, CPDCL, BSNL and others. Notices will soon be issued to the departments concerned so that the municipal corporation can halt permitting road cutting for a couple of years to take up laying the cement concrete roads, according to GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar.

Road repairs

Interacting with presspersons following the weekly ‘Prajavani’ programme on Monday, where he personally receives grievances from the citizens at the head office from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., he said that road repairs were taken up in 238 locations involving an expenditure of Rs. 17 crore and most were nearing completion. Repairs for another 178 locations were being taken up involving an expenditure of Rs. 12.5 crore.

A comprehensive plan to develop and maintain roads along with proper footpaths, median dividers, bus shelters, greenery etc., on either side would also be ready in a week’s time and specific sanctions would be given to take up major road repairs on damaged stretches on a priority, he said.

Occupancy certificates

The Commissioner said that owners of buildings should apply for issuance of occupancy certificates after completion of the project. Burning of garbage within the dumper bins would be viewed seriously he said and hoped to arrest the trend by strengthening the off site real time monitoring system.

Plea to citizens

Mr. Kumar also appealed to the citizens to make use of the ‘Prajavani’ programme on Mondays to interact with officials at the zonal and circle levels too for redressing grievances.

He also said that a training programme was being organised for sanitary workers at the Shilpakala Vedika on November 26 for improving the garbage collection system. ESI/PF cards would also be distributed on the occasion.

Demolitions

GHMC also carried out demolitions of some structures jutting onto the main carriageway on the Madhapur road to facilitate smooth flow of traffic since the Metro Rail authorities have started putting up barricades for taking up construction of piers on the stretch.
