Wipro disputes property tax

Special Correspondent

Wipro Ltd. continues to dispute the quantum of property tax that has been decided for its facility in Mahadevapura by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

On Tuesday, senior company officials, it is learnt, disputed the Rs. 16.40 crore property tax demand raised by the BBMP that members of the civic body’s Finance and Taxation Standing Committee sought, during a visit.

According to standing committee chairperson M.S. Shivaprasad, the company owed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Rs. 16.40 crore, which were dues for the last two years.

“Since the 16 lakh square feet facility came up in 2008, the company has been paying tax only partly, resulting in dues,” he said, adding that the company’s senior executives offered to pay only a part of the dues since they disputed the total quantum.

Calls and text message to the company’s spokesperson went unanswered.
