Illegal buildings razed during demolition drive

ALLAHABAD: The joint demolition drive of Allahabad Municipal Corporation and Allahabad Development Authority (ADA) was undertaken at Daraganj area on Thursday in which various illegal kiosks and unauthorized encroachments were removed. In addition, two illegal buildings were also bulldozed during the drive.

The demolition squad of AMC comprising of bulldozers, JCB machines and trucks reached Daraganj area during the noon time. Various illegal kiosks that have mushroomed on both the sides of the road were razed to the ground. After this, the demolition squad demolished about two illegal buildings that had been constructed illegally in this area. However, the residents of the building protested against the demolition. They had not removed their belongings from the house. It is pertinent to mention that the demolition squad of AMC and ADA went to demolish the illegal buildings even in the month of May but somehow the house caught fire and the demolition was postponed.

Talking to TOI, head of the demolition squad SL Yadav said, "The demolition drive was conducted in Daraganj area and about two illegal houses were demolished in the drive. The demolition drive will also continue in other parts of the city."
