Urban Development principal secy oversees sanitation work of MCD

Principal Secretary, Urban Development, MH Khan has pulled up officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun. In view of the deteriorating level of sanitation in the State capital, Khan inspected various areas of the city and oversaw the sanitation work of the MCD on Sunday along with municipal officials.

During his inspection, the principal secretary told the MCD Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Ashok Kumar that the corporation is responsible for maintaining sanitation in the city. The failure of the MCD to execute its responsibility effectively has led to deterioration in the level of civic sanitation in the town, said Khan.

He instructed the MCD officials to ensure that the piles of garbage in different areas of the city are cleared without fail by Monday and that garbage containers are placed where required. “The Doon Valley Waste Management company working on garbage disposal is also failing in its task,” said Khan, while adding that he would chair a meeting on Tuesday to dicuss the issues and reach a solution.

He directed the MNA to attend this meeting with complete information on various aspects including the payment made and due to the DVWM company so that a solution could be worked out to the problem. Appointing the additional MNA Uday Singh Pundir as the nodal officer for sanitation works in the State capital, the principal secretary also directed him to conduct periodic inspections to check garbage disposal and level of sanitation in town.

Khan further directed all officers of the MCD to ensure necessary action against the officer and supervisor concerned in case of improper garbage disposal in their areas. The additional district magistrate (Administration) Harak Singh Rawat, JK Pant of the Urban Development department, senior city health officer RK Singh, MCD executive engineer Ravi Pandey and others were also present during the inspection by the principal secretary.
