KMC takes over Mohor Kunja from Bengal Shelter

Kolkata, 4 December - The Kolkata Municipal Corporation today took over maintenance of Mohor Kunja from Bengal Shelter.

Named after noted Rabindra Sangeet exponent Kanika Bandopadhyay, the park ~ situated opposite Rabindra Sadan ~ was handed over to Bengal Shelter by the erstwhile Left Front-controlled civic board. Interestingly, no tender was floated as those running the firm were close to the then chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and the then mayor Mr Bikas Bhattacharya.

The firm set up an open air platform where cultural shows are regularly held. But over the past few years the firm has not maintained the area properly. Senior civic officials said tenders would be floated to select a firm to look after Mohor Kunja.
