IMC to seize property for failing to pay property tax

INDORE: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) may seize your property if it has property tax pending over Rs 25,000, it was decided in a meeting to review revenue collection.

Municipal commissioner Rakesh Singh observed that many people are not paying property tax regularly and directed the officials to prepare a list of all such defaulters who have more than Rs 25,000 tax pending and carry out a seizure drive against them. The assistant revenue officers and bill collectors of different zones were asked to begin the property seizure drive immediately and submit daily report to a cell located at the IMC headquarters.

The meeting also decided to impose surcharge of 15 per cent on those who pay property tax after December 31. Singh directed the officers to encourage the people to pay pending tax before December 31 to evade the surcharge.

Singh also reviewed performances of bill collectors in the meeting. He suspended two bill collectors for going on leave without prior permission. The suspended officials are Pavan Upadhaya of Zone 14 and Prashant Dashpande of Zone 6.

Besides, show-cause notices were served on two other bill collectors- Ramlal Chauhan and Virendra- for meagre revenue collection.

The bill collectors were directed to expedite revenue collection process. Besides Singh, Additional Commissioner Manoj Pushp, Deputy Commissioner Abhay Rajnagvakar and others were present in the meeting.
