Cuncolim Municpal Council gets GSUDA nod for commercial complex

MARGAO: Giving a boost to the plans for Cuncolim Municpal Council (CMC), the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has approved the civic body's proposed commercial building complex.

Earlier this year, the CMC had decided to drop the much delayed 1.6 crore health club project in favour of a new commercial project which was to be built using the government's golden jubilee signature grant.

While confirming that the GSUDA has approved the council's proposal for the construction of new complex, CMC chairperson Devendra Dessai stated that shops and commercial establishments along the national highway will be shifted to the complex. Dessai also informed soil testing for the project had been carried out and that GSUDA officials are in the process of preparing the estimates.

The CMC chief said that shopkeepers have agreed to shift to the commercial complex once it is completed. "This will go a long way to ease the flow of traffic along the busy stretch of national highway 17 passing through Cuncolim," Dessai said.

He said the council will now approach the town and country planning department for getting the necessary permissions.

Dessai also stated that there is also a proposal to acquire land under survey number 367/1, located between the national highway 17 and the site of the proposed commercial building complex, for creating a parking lot. Sources said the estimated cost of the proposed commercial complex is 1.45 crore.
