KMC will pay pending arrears soon

KOLHAPUR: Around 50 school teachers under the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) met civic chief Vijayalakshmi Bidari on Friday regarding their demand for the Sixth Pay Commission's pending arrears.

State secretary of the Maharashtra Purogami Prathamik Shikshak Sanghatana Prasad Patil said, "The state government had implemented the Sixth Pay Commission in 2010 for municipal school teachers across the state, according to which the state had to pay 50 % of the amount and the KMC the remaining 50%. The state has paid their share, which amounts to Rs 4 crore; but the KMC is yet to pay."

According to Patil, the KMC commissioner has promised to look into the matter and said the arrears would be paid soon.

"We are hopeful of getting our arrears after the municipal commissioner's promise. But the association will not tolerate any more delay in the payment. We will seek judicial help if the KMC fails to retain its promise," he added.

Patil said the association has around 100 members from city-based KMC schools.

"The city has around 60 KMC schools with 325 teachers," he added.
