Defence officials visit Pune municipal corporation

PUNE: A group of defence officials from National Institute of Defence Estates Management (NIDEM) visited the Pune municipal corporation to check the various projects carried out by the civic body, a statement issued by PMC said.

NIDEM is the premier Institute for the training of Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) Officers. The Institute was established in 1982 at Meerut Cantonment and was shifted to Delhi in 1995.

The statement added that the group included urban planners, construction experts and engineers. They interacted with the PMC officials and collected information about facilities provided to segregate the garbage and process various types of garbage.

PMC officials gave computer presentation about the projects that the PMC is running for better water distribution, sewage treatment, e-governance, property tax, river cleaning project, Katraj Zoo and environment department. They were also briefed about PMC's panel system and decentralisation of administrative works.

The officials also went to visit e-learning school, Seven Wonders Park and 4D theater. The e-learning English medium school is based in Sahakarnagar and is named the Rajiv Gandhi Academy of e-learning. About 1,500 students have already been enrolled for classes from junior KG till std VII. The classes will further be extended till class X.

E-learning is essentially a computer- and network-enabled transfer of skills and knowledge. E-learning applications and processes include web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual classroom opportunities and digital collaboration. The content is delivered via the internet, intranet/extranet, audio or video tape, satellite TV and CD-ROM.
