Officials told to restore civic facilities

Gescom officials asked to shift lampposts

BSNL directed to remove damaged underground cables


Raichur: Deputy Commissioner P. Anbu Kumar on Wednesday directed officials of the Raichur City Municipal Council and all departments concerned to restore civic facilities to all localities in the city where illegal structures were demolished.

According to official sources, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials from the CMC, the departments of Revenue and Public Works, the Raichur division of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (Gescom) and the Raichur circle of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., (BSNL) to take steps to clear the debris and restore supply of electricity and water in the affected areas. Gescom officials have been asked to shift lamp posts in the Teen Khadil and Kati Darwaza area, Cloth Bazaar, Harihara Road, Bhangikunta and Mahaveer Chowk.

BSNL officials have been directed to remove abandoned telephone poles and restore damaged underground cables in these localities, the sources said.

Recently, the Government released Rs. 30 lakh to improve facilities in the city. These funds would be used for the purpose, the sources said.

The sources said that in a separate meeting held with officials from the CMC, the Town Planning Department and the Raichur Development Authority recently, Mr. Kumar had asked the officials concerned to conduct a fresh survey in other localities in the city to identify encroachments and submit a report within three days.

This work had been completed in all localities except the stretch of road between Netaji Circle and Hanuma Talkies Circle and the area in and around the Gulshan Garden on Station Road, the sources said.
