Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to compensate families affected by road widening

AHMEDABAD: Following the high court's directive, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will allot plots to the 166 families affected by the road widening activity at India colony and Bapunagar.

The court had directed the AMC to compensate the families in one of two ways. Either the AMC was to accommodate the families in the EWS housing schemes built under JNNURM, or accommodate them permanently on the eastern side of the road at the proposed alternative site at Mamtanagar.

The plot is to be transferred to the families under their names so that they cannot be evacuated in the future in the name of road widening under any town planning scheme. The court had also ruled that providing plots of size 15 feet in width and 10 feet in length would not suffice. The families have to be allowed to build another storey above their house. The court had also directed the AMC to provide water and drainage facility to each of the houses and bear electricity charges levied by Torrent.

The proposal was admitted and accepted by the standing committee of the AMC.
