City Corporation to Hold Special Council

A special council meeting will be called by the City Corporation to discuss the draft master plan for 2031. This was announced by Mayor K Chandrika in the Corporation Council meeting held on Friday. The confusion prevailing in the areas coming under the plan situated on the city outskirts is to be discussed in the meeting.

The Corporation secretary was entrusted with the task of taking emergency action in ten days against the allegation that hotel The Leela, Kovalam had encroached on the ‘puramboke’ land and has been using it as a parking lot. The opposition UDF councillors raised the issue and said that the hotel is also collecting unauthorised parking fees without having the licence from the Corporation for the purpose.

The UDF also came out against the Mayor for temporarily staying the proceedings of the Corporation against institutions functioning in buildings without licence. The opposition demanded that the list of such institutions should be brought out. In response, the Mayor said that the matter of such temporary stays will be discussed in the very next council meeting after issuing the stays.

As part of issuing new TC numbers to buildings in the Corporation area, the numbering process will begin soon under the aegis of the health inspectors and junior health inspectors in the circles.

All adjournment motions presented in the council were approved.
