EMC seizes six marriage halls

City municipal Commissioner G. Nagaraju on Tuesday seized six marriage halls in the city for having been built in violation of the government norms. A couple of the marriage halls run by the city unit of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry were devoid of minimum fire safety measures. Most of the marriage halls in the city were found to be traffic bottlenecks for want of parking provision, the Commissioner said.

Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri on Tuesday instructed officials of the City Municipal Council (CMC) and the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) to initiate steps to supply drinking water to people. Speaking after visiting a water purification unit and pump house at Kotagihalli, along with officials of the CMC and the KUWSDB, Mr. Ikkeri said that there were complaints of contaminated water being supplied. Residents were blaming negligence of officials, he said.

Mayor orders clean-up of Meerapur locality

ALLAHABAD: Mayor Abhilasha Gupta inspected Meerapur locality on Monday and inquired about civic problems faced by the residents. During the inspection, it silt was found deposited in huge quantity in the drains behind the residence of Manik Chandra Gupta. Piles of garbage was also found littered across the locality.

Residents of the area told the mayor that sanitary staff did not come to clean the locality regularly. Shyam Lal paper lane and other lanes of the locality were found in a miserable condition.

The lane of Dariyabad Bahar Gaon was also found in a sorry state and residents complained they were not getting water supply. Mayor spoke to the general manager of Jal Sansthan and instructed him to make arrangements of water supply in the area. The mayor took the sanitary staff to task for neglecting the area. Sanitary inspector Yogendra Vishwakarma was instructed to make arrangements to clean the area and that lanes in which the sanitary staff had not been deputed be cleaned regularly. She also said she would inspect the area again after a week. If the area is not found cleaned, severe action will be taken against the sanitary staff concerned.
