KMC teams to ensure smooth flow of traffic

KOLKATA,: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation today formed five teams of disaster management to remove all barriers in case of natural calamities and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Traffic in the city is badly affected after a squall when hundreds of trees are uprooted inconveniencing residents.

This had happened on 4 April when more than 100 trees in the Maidan and its neighbourhood got uprooted.

People living in Tollygunge took nearly two hours to reach their home in the evening.

The teams comprising five members each will have ten vehicles. The vehicles will carry modern equipment to cut trees.

The teams will move fast during any natural calamity with the modern equipment, said Mr Debasish Kumar, member, mayor-in-council, parks, gardens and sports.

The team was formed as existing teams and equipment of the civic body were not sufficient to remove trees that fell on roads during storm, a senior civic official said.
