PMPML to file police plaints for misusing pass

PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided to file police complaints against commuters found to be tampering with or misusing the bus travel passes. Ticket checkers and the staff have been instructed to this effect, PMPML officials said.

The decision has followed several instances of travel pass misuse. Recently, a bus commuter had purchased a travel pass claiming to be a senior citizen, but his birthdate did not match the one in the pass. The transport utility then filed a complaint against the commuter.

There have been several instances of ticketless travel. Statistics show that between April 2012 and March 2013, nearly 84,000 people travelled without tickets. On an average, 230 passengers were found travelling ticketless every day, last year. The PMPML had collected fines of over Rs 84 lakh from such offenders, last year.
