PCMC chief seeks directions on proposal for illegal structures

PUNE: Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi has sought directions from the state government on a proposal to stop supply of basic civic amenities to unauthorized constructions that have come up in the city after April 1, 2012.

Though Pardeshi had tabled the proposal in the general body meeting seven months ago, the general body continued to defer it. On Friday, Pardeshi approved the proposal using his constitutional powers and forwarded it to the state government for further directions. He said the civic administration had submitted the proposal to the law committee on August 21, 2012 to stop supplying civic amenities to unauthorized constructions built after April 1, 2012. The proposal was recommended by the law committee to the civic general body for approval. However, the general body did not take a decision on it in the last six meetings, from October 2012 to March 2013. "Hence, I ordered on Thursday that the subject is approved as per chapter 2 rule 1(s) of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation ( BPMC) Act 1949."

The proposal states that there are 3 lakh properties in the city, of which 1.10 lakh are unauthorized constructions. Members of the Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) have written a letter to the PCMC to check documents like the lease deed, building permission, completion certificate provided by the PCNTDA to the owners of constructions that are located in PCNTDA limits, before providing basic amenities like water and drainage connections, approach roads and streetlights.

The civic body has also sought approval to inform the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited ( MSEDCL) to give power connections to properties in the municipal limits only after the owners provide commencement and other certificates from the concerned civic departments.
