MCD seals 3 banks, 11 other commercial unitsStaff Reporter | New Delhi
Cracking down on violation of building by-laws and other rules, the MCD on Thursday sealed 14 commercial units, including three banks, and demolished 11 properties in south and central Delhi.
Branches of three nationalised banks — Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and Axis Bank — were sealed in Greater Kailash-I due to “misuse of properties and non-conforming to the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 and Building Bye-Laws, 1983,” the civic body said.
The corporation is giving a renewed focus on curbing unauthorised constructions and misuse of properties in violation of rules after a building with illegal floors collapsed in east Delhi on November 15, killing 70 people.
The MCD also sealed 11 other properties, mostly shops and godowns, in Kalkaji and Giri Nagar areas. The Building Department of MCD Central Zone, taking action against alleged violators of Building Bye-Laws, demolished portions of 11 properties, officials said. The properties are situated in Friends Colony, Vishwakarma Colony, Greater Kailash-I, Sangam Vihar, Govindpuri, Tughlakabad Extension and Sunlight Colony-II.
Acting against illegal structures, the MCD had on November 30 demolished nine unauthorised constructions in north Delhi while on November 25 too, it brought alleged illegal floors of nine properties in south Delhi. Following the house collapse in Lalita Park in Laxmi Nagar, MCD has faced flak from various quarters, including the Delhi government, for failing to check the growth of unauthorised constructions in the city.
