Carry out survey of all rented civic properties, says panel

Pune:  The Pune Municipal Corporation standing committee on Monday directed the civic administration to undertake a survey of all its properties rented to private organisations for various purpose as the revenue collection has been Rs 5.28 crore as against the target Rs 18.53 crore.

“The land and estate departments have failed to maintain the records of its rented properties and the civic body was in loss of huge revenue. There are also complaints that few persons were making money by renting the civic property on their own,” said Nilesh Nikam, leader of the house.

The standing committee took areview of the budget implementation by the administration.

“The water supply department has failed to achieve its target as it has been able to collect Rs 12.66 crore asa against the Rs 104 crore target of the year," he said.

Chairman Arvind Shinde said that it was found that only 40 per cent of the 36,000 installed water meter are functional and the administration has been asked to clarification on the failure of water meter.

“There should be action against civic staff that neglected non functional water meter," he said adding the administration has also been asked to take action against illegal hoardings as only Rs six crore has been collected of fees as against the target of Rs 25 crore.

The octroi deparment has collected Rs 632 crore so far as against the target of Rs 912 crore for the year. "The octroi department is confident of achieving the target. The department has also been asked to GPS and scanning system to check octroi evasion," Shinde said.The property tax collection has been Rs 318 crore as against Rs 451 crore, the administration has been given powers to seal the properties defaulting tax.

Advertisers’ association asks MC commissioner to check illegal hoardings

Ludhiana:  Outdoor Advertisers Association on Monday met the MC Commissioner A K Sinha and gave him a memorandum asking him to keep a check on the illegal advertisers and protect the rights of legal media holders.

Shavinder Singh, one of the members of the association said the Jalandher MC has banned display of advertisements on private buildings and the Ludhiana MC should follow the same. Private building owners are earning lakhs per month for displaying hoardings on their buildings.

The members pointed out that a reputed advertisement company, which was once black listed by the MC, was now back in business and the corporation was not taking any action against the owner for using bigger size hoarding against the permitted size.

They alleged that several advertisers were displaying advertisement hoardings of much bigger size as compared to the permitted size. Details given by the association are”

Ahmedabad:  Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s estate department carried out sealing and demolition operations in all the six zones simultaneously on Monday and announced that the drive would continue in days to come, in accordance with suggestions from the Justice (retd) Kamal Mehta Committee.

The properties sealed included an industrial estate with 35 sheds in the east zone Ramol Ward's Vatva GIDC Phase-IV, behind the Indo-German Tool Room Ltd. The AMC has imposed a ban on use of these sheds located in Tirth Estate.

The west zone saw maximum sealing operations during the day. AMC sealed 43,000 sq ft of space in the Agrawal Complex near Municipal Market, sealed illegal parking space in the basement of Navneet Plaza, besides sealing 10 basement and seven ground-floor shops in Om Complex on C G Road.

Sixty commercial units were sealed in Abhishek Building in Khanpur and in Ganj Bazar of Madhavpura ward in the east zone, besides a godown in Sumel Complex opposite Gurudwara freeing 2,500 sq feet of space. Moreover, the AMC south zone staff sealed 82 shops in the basement of Gopal Tower opposite Maningar railway station and sealed 30 shops in Kalasagar Complex in Thakkarbapanagar, besides sealing four floors of a nearby building.
