Palike officials told to prepare DPR

Bangalore, October 19, DHNS:

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah carried out an inspection of Kempambudi tank, along with local Corporator Chandrashekar on Monday.

According to Palike officials, the commissioner has directed the BBMP officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) by next month, for the construction of a sedimentation tank beside the water body.

Since the water body has too many inlets, sewage water has been entering the tank, polluting one of the oldest water bodies of the City.

With the onset of monsoon, de-silting work in the lake had come to a standstill.

Tenders were called to award contracts for cleaning the lake which had accumulated silt upto six feet. At present, silt to a height of two-and-a-half feet which was emanating foul smell in the tank remains to be cleaned, the officials stated.

Mayor inspects new buses to ply on BRTS

Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Mayor Krishna Gaur on Tuesday inspected the new public transport buses that would ferry residents in the State capital from November 1.

Visiting the Bhadbhada Road depot of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Mayor asked officials of TATA — the company supplying buses to ply on the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) corridor — to ensure timely delivery of the 105 standard buses to be introduced in the first phase of the project.

Further, the officials were further asked to ensure proper training of employees deputed on these buses. Notably, under the central funded Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) project, the BMC has developed four BRTS corridors in the State capital.

The buses in question will provide services on this corridor while existing public transport facilities like mini buses and Tata Magic would be banned from these routes.

Resisting the move, the city transporters embarked on a strike from Tuesday. However, BMC has termed the arrangement necessary for providing better public transport facilities to commuters.

MC reviews decision on legal notice

CHANDIGARH: In a turn of events following a decision to send a legal notice to a Delhi-based private company in connection with construction of a multi-level parking lot near the Sector 17 circus ground, the civic body has decided to again request the company to construct a parking lot. Sources revealed that during the process of mulling a legal notice, it had come to the fore that not only the company but also the civic body was responsible for the delay.

Sources in the civic body revealed that following scrutiny by legal wing of the civic body, it was clear that MC took a long time to hand over the said site to the company for the construction. Thus, under clauses of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), the civic body was also responsible for the situation.

Sources further maintained UT administration had to shift underground wires from the site, but it took long to do the same. Thus, there was delay in passing on the site to the company.

S S Bida, chief engineer with the civic body, talking to TOI, said, "Instead of sending a legal notice to the company, we have now decided to request it to start the work soon."

It may be recalled that in a blow to the municipal corporation, a Delhi- based company that was to construct the much awaited parking lot in Sector 17, near circus ground, had reportedly pulled out of the project.

Sources in municipal corporation said the company had initially told the civic body to extend the contract period from seven to 12 years. However, the firm is said to have told officials of the engineering wing that it was not interested in the project.
