BBMP slaps notices on overstaying tenants

BANGALORE: BBMP has issued 139 notices to tenants who have violated their contract period for properties leased out by the civic body.

There are over 30 such properties that have been identified in east zone itself. BBMP officials said that tenants have been given a notice period of 45 days to move out from the properties or they would be forcefully removed. Caveats have been filed in 11 cases that have legal complications, officials said. Signboards would also be installed to deter encroachers in the future and action would be initiated against such individuals.

The court has ordered the immediate eviction of four such clients in Bangalore East. The Karnataka Medical Association, the National Council for Women in India in Siddapura, Honey house and a private establishment are among the defaulters. Officials said that another 200x200 property, worth over `20 crore, was recovered recently and the owner was asked to pay the property tax and penalty for the seven years that he violated the lease period.

The issue of property owners violating the lease periods had consumed much of the BBMP council’s time and members had accused the officials and the legal cell of turning a blind eye to such properties. There were over 300 properties that were leased out by BBMP and 161 of those had violated the contract agreement.

BBMP was on a recovery drive and had started issuing notices and also filing caveats in the courts to protect properties leased out to individuals and organisations.

WEDDING HALLS BOOKED FOR VIOLATING RULES

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued circulars to stop people from booking Balaji and Panchamukhi Wedding Halls in Banashankari III stage. The halls, owned by suspended Ganesh Mandira corporator L Govindaraju, came under the BBMP scanner, after it was found that they were violating Palike rules.

L Govindaraju was suspended from the Council after he was nabbed by the Lokayukta police, while accepting a bribe of `2 lakh from a private builder.

They suggest bailing out of the sand that accumulated in the collection well

Chennai team to arrive for video-recording

VIJAYAWADA: A team of experts constituted by the State government on Thursday inspected the collection well of the 10-MGD plant at Ramaligeswara Nagar that sank three weeks ago.

The team included I.S.N. Raju, Chief Engineer, Central Designs Organisation; K. Suresh Kumar, Chief Engineer, Public Health; M. Satyanarayana, Deputy Director, Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board; and Md. Imtiyaz Ahmed, Chief Engineer, APUFIDC.

They visited the plant in the morning and studied the situation. In their preliminary observations, they felt that the sand accumulated in the collection well was obstructing the view.

They suggested that the officials of the VMC bail out the sand that accumulated in the collection well of the plant. They also suggested to the officials to record the situation in the well using underwater video cameras.

The footage obtained thus would provide a better picture of the condition inside the well. Based on the footage, the experts would make necessary suggestions.

A similar view was expressed by S. R. Gandhi, an expert from IIT Madras during his visit a week ago. Prof. Gandhi felt that “ceiling concrete might have failed.”

But, it could be established only after further studies, he told the VMC officials and suggested to them to bail out the silt that accumulated in the well. He, however, cautioned them against pumping out the entire water and emptying the well.

The Corporation, meanwhile, contacted Chennai-based National Institute of Ocean Technology for necessary assistance.

A team would visit the plant on Saturday to video-record inside the well.

DM visits city to ensure sanitation

PNS | Dehradun

In order to ensure the required level of civic sanitation in the town, the Dehradun District Magistrate Sachin Kurve visited various localities in different municipal wards along with the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) Indu Dhar Baurai, Additional Nagar Adhikari Harak Singh Rawat and Senior City Health officer Dr Gurpal Singh on Thursday.

While inspecting the areas in various wards, he pointed out that the municipal drainage system had become choked at many places during the rainy season in addition to which weeds growing on the sides of sewers were obstructing drainage of water.

He directed MCD officials to ensure clearing of the chocked drains obstructing flow of dirty water in to the civic drainage network. Kurve further pointed out the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria.

The main reason of the spread of such diseases is lack of sanitation. The stagnant water in chocked drains and puddles increases the risk of such diseases by providing an ideal breeding ground for pests.

The DM stressed that officials of the MCD should ensure spraying of required medicines to prevent breeding of mosquitoes in stagnant water in different areas of the town without delay.

The DM and MCD officials inspected the level of civic sanitation in various areas of different municipal wards including DL Road, Cement Road, DAV College Road, Nashvilla Road, Kishannagar and Kaulagarh among others.
