Staff Reporter

Management agrees to pay requisite fee

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on Tuesday served notices to Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam for constructing Mallikharjuna Mahamandapam and a dormitory at Jammidoddi without submitting building plans to it. The temple management asked the corporation not to stop the works keeping in view of the larger public interest. The management told the corporation that it would pay the requisite fee.

The Corporation issued notices to Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam some time ago under Section 452 of the HMC Act, 1955 and Section 45(1) and 43(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Urban Areas (Development) Act, 1975. The corporation officials informed the VMC general body regarding these facts in response to a question raised by Congress corporator Buddha Jagannadham.

Free prasadam

Meanwhile, the temple Executive Officer N. Vijay Kumar said that they were making all necessary arrangements for the ensuing Dasara festival.

Owners of the 12 shops located atop Indrakeeladri have come forward to foot the bill for distribution of free prasadam to the devotees during the festivities.

It was estimated that distribution of free prasadam on all the 10 days would cost Rs. 4.5 lakh, and the shop owners paid Rs. 1.5 lakh on Tuesday towards advance, he said.

Mr. Vijay Kumar said that Tahli and Tahli Company came forward to supply buttermilk free of cost to the devotees from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the celebations. Likewise, Chandana Brothers agreed to provide 2 lakh water sachets, and construct two arch gates. Many more donors were coming forward, he said. Chief Minister K. Rosaiah was expected to present silk robes to the presiding deity on October 13, the day of the most auspicious Moola Nakshatram.

1,200 house owners get sealing notice

CHANDIGARH: Around 1,200 owners of houses built by private colonisers in Gurgaon have got sealing notices from Haryana's Town and Country Planning department for failing to procure occupancy certificates (OC).

The owners are now stuck in a limbo. On Monday, many of them were seen running around with papers to get the formalities completed.

Alleging lack of monitoring on government's part, the owners accused the builders of harassment by not informing them about the occupancy certificates. We just fail to understand as to what stops the government in giving a time-frame for the builders to get the OCs for the housing units carved out by them. Now, since builder has already sold out his units and has made profit, they dont have any interest.

Had they issued the guidelines on time, we would not have faced such problems, said R S Rathee, President of Gurgaon Citizen Council (GCC). Let somebody from the government come forward and narrate even a single policy favoring the allotees, said Rathee.

T C Gupta, director of Town and Country Planning department, denied any favors being done to licensees while framing the policies. The policies are framed while keeping in view the requirements of common man. We know the allotees will be harassed by the colonizers so we have asked them to apply directly to us. Gupta said.

And if they have any problem, allotees are free to approach us at headquarters here, added Gupta. Gurgaon has 70,000 occupants of house made by 150 private colonisers.

Footpath cave-in: Stop-work notice issued to developer

A day after a portion of a footpath and the boundary wall adjoining a storm water drain collapsed in Mulund (West) after the foundation work of an under-construction commercial high-rise crashed, the municipal corporation issued a stop-work notice. On Monday, the municipal corporation asked the developer to undertake corrective measures to rectify the damage to the storm water drain line that was damaged in the collapse.

The incident occurred at the junction of the busy JN Road and the Walji Ladha Road on Sunday evening when the sheet pile of a 27-storey commercial high-rise that is coming up in the area collapsed caused the cave-in.

The developer was given permission for a double basement to accommodate a multiplayer parking lot.

Engineers from the corporation’s building proposal department, who visited the site on Monday, were not satisfied by the reason given by the developer that the sheet pile collapsed because of the heavy rainfall on Sunday.

“We will be investigating whether the foundation that was laid was done keeping in mind the specifications by the department. If flaws are found then action will be taken on the structural engineer and developer,” said a senior civic official, on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to talk to the media.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Bharat Marathe said the engineers, who had visited the site, will submit their report by Tuesday.
