LDA seals shops in Gomtinagar

LUCKNOW: An enforcement squad of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) sealed a section of shops in a commercial complex in Virat Khand, Gomtinagar, on Tuesday. The drive saw protest by some of shopkeepers but they were controlled by the police force accompanying the squad.

The drive was mainly carried out against five shopkeepers who had constructed unauthorised shops. The shop owners who were taken to task by the enforcement squad included: Tarak Nath Gupta (shop number A-1), Prem Sagar (shop number F-3), Santosh Yadav (shop number F-2), Om Narayan (shop number F-1) and Shanaz Farooqi (shop number B-6).

The enforcement squad also sealed a men's saloon in Vipul Khand. The authority claimed that the parlour, owned by one Prem Kumar Satsangi, was being run on a plot with a residential land use. The parlour was constructed in the basement of the plot. LDA sealed the plot despite some resistance from the owner.

Consultants to assess damaged bridges
Thirty-four bridges in the city are in a structurally dilapidated condition. To assess whether these bridges should be demolished and reconstructed or strengthened, the municipal corporation has decided to appoint consultants who will submit reports on the estimated cost of repair and a plan of action. 

The proposal will be tabled before the civic standing committee on Wednesday.

A state-appointed Standing Technical Advisory Committee had found these bridges needed urgent repairs in 2007. Kemps Corner flyover and Haji Ali subway are also a part of dilapidated list. Three years later, the BMC has decided to appoint consultants, who will observe and assess each bridge.

“The consultant will have Non-Destructive Test and physical test, which will form the basis of the recommendation,” said a civic official. “The proposal will be discussed in the coming civic standing committee meeting. But these bridges need urgent repairs,” said Rahul Shewale chairman of the standing committee.

MOHALI: After the announcement of two ambitious projects — Mullanpur Urban Estate and IT City — for which Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is going to acquire around 2,000 acres land in Mohali district, authorities are now planning to encourage farmers to adopt land pooling scheme to reduce acquisition cost.

At present average compensation being paid by GMADA for acquisition of land is around Rs 1.3 to Rs 1.5 crore, which means that GMADA would have to pay Rs 3,000 crore if the entire land is acquired by paying cash. A senior official said that for Mullanpur Urban Estate, the land acquisition collector has already issued the notices under Section 9 of Land Acquisition Act but efforts were on to motivate farmers to opt for land pooling scheme under which they will be given 968 square yard of developed residential plot and 121 square yard of commercial plot including parking space in lieu of one acre land acquired by them.

"We would also pay the rent on market rate basis till the time they are handed over the developed residential plot. Generally, it takes around 1.5 years to hand over the developed site but till then rent being paid to farmers would ensure they do not suffer any loss," said the official.

Knowing that response to land pooling scheme has not generated desired response, now GMADA is planning to advertise the salient features of the scheme in a big way.
