Recognition for GHMC mobile governance

HYDERABAD: GHMC's Mobile Governance Project, where citizens' feedback is obtained through phones and public service delivery, has received certificate of recognition at ‘m billion award South Asia 2010' held in New Delhi.

Peter Bruck, Chairman of the awards committee handed over the certificate on Friday night.

Eight South Asian countries participated in the exhibition and 53 of the 170 nominations were shortlisted. 26 of the entries received certificates of recognition.

IT Secretary R. Chandrashekhar inaugurated the exhibition and appreciated GHMC's initiative.

30 percent contribution

The Municipal Corporation has also come out with a project of taking up works in any colony provided 30 per cent contribution is made.

Rest of the 70 per cent will be borne by the civic body. Three colonies in L.B. Nagar have already been chosen for the works, officials said.

Encroachments

Meanwhile, more than 1,200 roadside encroachments causing problems to pedestrians and vehicles were demolished during the special drive that begun on Saturday. Encroachments like ramps, makeshift huts, buntings, parked vehicles, hoardings, etc., were removed at Khairatabad junction to Erragadda, Kukatpally ‘Y' junction to JNTU, Dilsukhnagar to L.B Nagar junction, Chaderghat Bridge to Dilsukhnagar, Tarnaka to Mettuguda junction and Banda Cheruvu at Malkajgiri.

BANGALORE: BBMP deputy mayor N Dayanand inspected the deplorable conditions at a BBMP school and a maternity hospital at Moodalpalya on Monday.

The high school boasted of an impressive student strength and 52% result but the both the school and the PU college at Byraveshwaranagar had no proper staff and lacked space.
Even the textbooks for the new academic year were yet to be distributed. Dayanand ordered the staff to take immediate action on these issues.

During his visit to the Moodalpalya BBMP maternity hospital, lack of cleanliness, shortage of medicines and staff crunch irked the deputy mayor.

He directed officials to immediately distribute Madilu and Janani Suraksha Kits among pregnant mothers.
Meanwhile, at a meeting in the BBMP headquarters on Monday, Dayanand held a discussion with officials on ways and means to improve BBMP schools.

 New Delhi:  Says no MCD sanction needed as establishments are integral part of Metro station

Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna has directed immediate de-sealing of the seven commercial premises at Inderlok Metro station. The establishments were sealed on June 8 by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which claimed they were unauthorised.

At a high-level meeting chaired by the L-G on Tuesday to clear the stand-off between the MCD and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Khanna made it clear that any establishment, which is an integral part of a DMRC station, required no sanction from the MCD. The high-level meeting was attended by DMRC Managing Director Dr E Sreedharan and MCD Commissioner K S Mehra.

“The Lieutenant-Governor has ordered the immediate de-sealing of the commercial premises at the Inderlok Metro Station. DMRC can carry out property development activities as an alternative source of revenue so that Metro fares can be kept at subsidised levels,” Officer on Special Duty to the L-G, Ranjan Mukherjee, told Newsline. However, any commercial activity beyond the operational structure of DMRC would have to take all requisite permissions from the civic authorities, the L-G has ruled.

On June 8, the MCD had sealed commercial spaces at the Inderlok Metro Station, alleging that DMRC had constructed these premises without taking its sanction. The MCD had contended that such a sanction was required even if the DMRC had prior permission to carry out commercial activity from within the premises of their Metro stations. DMRC, on its part, maintained that it has been permitted to undertake such activities including leasing, concessions etc. without any restrictive condition as per the approval of the Group of Ministers and Ministry of Urban Development. 

The DMRC-MCD battle over land use is almost four years old. The face-off started in 2006, when the MCD objected to the commercial development work carried out by DMRC at many stations and asked the latter to pay property tax to MCD for the commercial use of land.

The DMRC had at the time contended that it can carry out property development work citing the 2006 National Urban Policy report.
