GHMC begins demolishing ex-Kadapa Mayor’s building

Following the directions of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday took up demolition of a building of former Mayor of Kadapa, Ravindranath Reddy, at Road No. 5, Jubilee Hills.

Mr. Reddy is also the brother-in-law of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

According to GHMC officials, the directions were given on Friday treating the building as unauthorised, following which the demolition was taken up at the ground floor plus structure, with police protection today.

“There was a title dispute of this property in the court and on receiving the demolition order, our staff partially demolished three slabs today,” said an official.

The exercise would continue tomorrow morning also to demolish the columns and beams of the property that was built on some 350 square yards, he said.

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar handed over appointment letters to 24 personnel under compassionate grounds at the head office on Monday. The appointments were for the posts of watchmen, health assistants and junior assistants, a press release said.

Six zones to monitor waste management

Administrator of the Mangalore City Corporation and Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada A.B. Ibrahim instructed the corporation Commissioner to divide the 60 wards into six zones and appoint six senior officers as in-charge to supervise sanitation work in the city. He gave the direction after conducting a meeting at the corporation on Saturday. Earlier on Thursday, he instructed the corporation to prepare a proposal within three months to construct an energy generating unit from solid waste at Pachchanady, a release said.
