KMC will pay pending arrears soon

KOLHAPUR: Around 50 school teachers under the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) met civic chief Vijayalakshmi Bidari on Friday regarding their demand for the Sixth Pay Commission's pending arrears.

State secretary of the Maharashtra Purogami Prathamik Shikshak Sanghatana Prasad Patil said, "The state government had implemented the Sixth Pay Commission in 2010 for municipal school teachers across the state, according to which the state had to pay 50 % of the amount and the KMC the remaining 50%. The state has paid their share, which amounts to Rs 4 crore; but the KMC is yet to pay."

According to Patil, the KMC commissioner has promised to look into the matter and said the arrears would be paid soon.

"We are hopeful of getting our arrears after the municipal commissioner's promise. But the association will not tolerate any more delay in the payment. We will seek judicial help if the KMC fails to retain its promise," he added.

Patil said the association has around 100 members from city-based KMC schools.

"The city has around 60 KMC schools with 325 teachers," he added.

30 days for CMC to develop parking lot

CUTTACK: The traffic management committee, formed by the Orissa high court to look into traffic problems in Cuttack, has directed Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to develop parking lots in the city within a month.

In order to ease traffic congestion in the city, a joint survey was conducted by the traffic police and the CMC in September and 19 places were identified for creating parking space. The CMC was entrusted with the task of demarcating and developing the parking lots. Even after two months, the civic body is yet to act on it.

"The traffic management committee has directed the CMC authorities to ready all 19 parking lots in a month," said ACP (traffic), Cuttack, Pramod Rath. The parking lots will come up at Buxi Bazaar, Biju Patnaik Chhak, Nimchouri, Sati Choura Square, Dargha Bazaar and Markat Nagar.

The meeting of the traffic management committee is held every month and the CMC officials have been asked to complete the work by its next meeting, sources said.

The CMC authorities said they will try to complete the work within the stipulated time period. "We were unable to move ahead with the work due to paucity of funds. Recently, some banks agreed to help us in developing the parking lots. We are hopeful of completing the work by January," said CMC commissioner Pratap Das.

Residents hoped the initiative will help streamline the chaotic traffic of the city. There are over 4.5 lakh registered vehicles in Cuttack, but there are only three parking lots at Ranihat, Manglabagh and Buxi Bazaar. "In the absence of parking zones, people are forced to park their vehicles on roads and commuters face a lot of hardships in negotiating busy roads," said P K Sahoo, a resident of Buxi Bazaar.

HUDA plot owners to get notices for not paying EDC

GURGAON: The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) will issue notices demanding External Development Charges (EDC) from house owners in 15 different sectors in Gurgaon. A discrepancy in filing EDC charges was found during an audit review of revenue collection from house owners. The pending EDC charges run to lakh of rupees.

House owners who have not cleared their dues will be issued notices.

A senior HUDA official said the houses are located in sectors under the jurisdiction of Estate Office I in Gurgaon. "Notices will be sent to house owners by next week. They will have to respond immediately and pay up the charges," said the official.

In HUDA sectors, EDC is charged from house owners and funds are then used for raising infrastructure and other public facilities. According to HUDA rules, house owners with plots measuring 500 sq m will have to pay Rs 415 and for plots more than 500 sq m will have to pay Rs 550 as EDC. In addition, for pending due, HUDA also charges 10% penalty from plot owners. The delay in payment of EDC can mean disconnection of utility services, including electricity.

The residents, however, are not happy with the development. Sandeep Ahuja, a resident said: "HUDA's demand for EDC from plot owners is unjustified, as there is no external development in many sectors in New Gurgaon."
