GHMC, Water Board officials inspect Musi river

HYDERABAD: Senior officials of GHMC and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Thursday inspected the Musi river and the nalas flowing into it from Attapur and Moosarambagh on the directions of the high court. GHMC and HMDA were asked to submit a report to the court about the points of sewage entry into the Musi by November 30. Senior officials including GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar and HMWSSB MD Syamala Rao were present during the inspection.

The officials inspected removal of encroachments along the river besides the sewage interception and treatment. HMWS&SB has taken up half of the proposed interception treatment works and funds for the remaining work are awaited from National River Conservation Board.

The GHMC commissioner also directed officials of the bio-diversity wing to beautify the entire stretch along the river.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation started issuing bar-coded ration cards

AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) recently began distribution of new barcode ration cards in Sabarmati, Khadia and Maninagar zones. The cardholders will now easily get the ration from the stores with the help of these cards.

As many as 20 ration shops in Sabarmati began distribution from November 25 while 11 shops in Khadia zone will begin distribution from December 2. Distribution of new ration cards in Maninagar zone will start from December 9.

The estate and urban development department of AMC on has recently also cleared 2,000 sq m of road of illegal temporary structures in TP scheme 38/1 in Behrampura ward.

The south zone team removed 90 illegitimate temporary shops and under-construction units along the Al-Mubarak residency to PWD store stretch in Chandora in a daylong exercise.

The road was cleared to set up new drainage lines in the area and also allow smooth movement of traffic.

Illegal buildings razed during demolition drive

ALLAHABAD: The joint demolition drive of Allahabad Municipal Corporation and Allahabad Development Authority (ADA) was undertaken at Daraganj area on Thursday in which various illegal kiosks and unauthorized encroachments were removed. In addition, two illegal buildings were also bulldozed during the drive.

The demolition squad of AMC comprising of bulldozers, JCB machines and trucks reached Daraganj area during the noon time. Various illegal kiosks that have mushroomed on both the sides of the road were razed to the ground. After this, the demolition squad demolished about two illegal buildings that had been constructed illegally in this area. However, the residents of the building protested against the demolition. They had not removed their belongings from the house. It is pertinent to mention that the demolition squad of AMC and ADA went to demolish the illegal buildings even in the month of May but somehow the house caught fire and the demolition was postponed.

Talking to TOI, head of the demolition squad SL Yadav said, "The demolition drive was conducted in Daraganj area and about two illegal houses were demolished in the drive. The demolition drive will also continue in other parts of the city."
