In a move to fast track its efforts to find solutions to some of the burning physical and infrastructure issues of the city, the Corporation has announced a slew of major meetings in the coming days. Though the dates for the meets have not been finalised, the Corporation has initiated preparations for the same.

A meeting of the ‘Traffic Regulatory Committee’, a statutory body with Mayor as chairman and City Police Commissioner as convener, would meet soon to find a way out for the traffic-related issues on MG Road.

The committee comprises the Regional Transport Officer and officials of the PWD and Revenue Departments. At present, traffic is in  chaos in the heart of the city due to the construction activities of the Metro Rail. Traffic jams are a regular feature near the two bus stops in the area. Complaints are pouring in that the Metro Rail authorities were not sharing information with the Corporation. The meeting is supposed to discuss all these aspects.

The ‘Traffic Regulatory Committee’ plays a pivotal role in solving various issues related to the regulation of autorickshaws in the city.

Apart from this, two special council meetings will be convened to solve issues pertaining to various road development and drinking water related schemes in the city. The Thammanam-Pulleppady road widening, construction of much-delayed Pachalam Railway Over Bridge and Atlantis Railway Over Bridge, development of Goshree-Mamangalam road and widening of South Railway Overbridge will be taken up for discussion at the meeting.

Water-logging is major issue which has been plaguing East and West Kochi for some time. A total of Rs 60 crore has been proposed in the JNNURM Phase II to solve water-logging in West Kochi and Rs 40 crore for the same in East Kochi. In tune with the demand of the councillors for a discussion on the topic, the Mayor has proposed a special council.

NDMC launches call centre

Staff Reporter

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched a 24x7 call centre to ensure speedy resolution of problems under its jurisdiction.

“After studying the feedbacks from people received over a period of time, we have set up the call centre for quick redress of the concerns of citizens,” said NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava on Sunday. The call centre, which is capable of handing 30 calls at a time, will extend its services both in Hindi and English.

The service will handle both the queries and complaints from consumers. It will also collate feedbacks from people living in the NDMC area on the quality of civic services, said Mr. Shrivastava.

“Each call will be tagged in the customer relationship management (CRM) software, and acknowledgement and responses will be sent through email, phone and SMS,” he added. The citizens can presently lodge their complaints about various services through the Internet. “This system generates a complaint ID, and the complaints automatically get forwarded to officials concerned for a quick action,” he said.

According to Mr. Shrivastava, there will be a log record of all telephone calls, mails and SMS for a follow-up.

“The NDMC will also maintain an extensive consolidated report mentioning the total number of complaints and the nature of response. If complaints are not handled in a time-bound manner, the complainants will have the right to approach senior officers, going all the way to the chairperson,” he said, adding that the NDMC planned to integrate the existing system with mobile-based applications, CRM with the billing and house tax system, and the customer care number with its helpline number.

Civic body begins drive against illegal hoardings

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Corporation will launch a joint drive to remove the illegal hoardings and advertisements boards installed at various locations in the city.

This time the civic body will carry out the joint drive with the help of the officials of the revenue and engineering sections.

The civic body has decided to strengthen its ongoing drive following complaints from public about the problem faced due to the installments of such hoardings .

The civic body had removed unauthorised advertisements and hoarding four months ago, but the advertisements reappeared after some days especially at Kozhikode Beach, in front of the Model School, Mavoor Road, Bypass, Palayam Subway, Mananchira and major junctions in the city.

City corporation secretary B K Balaraj said that the problem is that since the civic body had entrusted a contractor to levy the advertisement fee, the officials are finding difficult to differentiate between authorized and unauthorized advertisements put up on the roads sides. "Considering the seriousness of the matter, we have decided to launch a joint drive of officials comprising both the revenue and engineering sections to strengthen the drive against illegal hoardings,'' he said. "We have already given directions to the officials and they are expected to begin the drive soon after collecting details of authorized and unauthorized banners put up on the road sides and major junctions causing problem to the people,'' he said,
